Most people think citizenship is a once-a-year event, something you exercise when you head to the polls or stand for a parade, until they realize it’s actually a daily heartbeat that starts at your own breakfast table.
If you’ve ever felt like your voice is just a whisper in a room full of shouting, you need to see this. For years, I’ve watched as the concept of "being an American" has been boiled down to soundbites and social media arguments. It’s exhausting, isn’t it? We’re told we’re divided, told we’re different, and told that the values that once bound us together are relics of a distant past.
I’m here to tell you that’s a lie.
That’s why I started writing my daily letters. Every morning, I sit down to share a message with our community at Pledge Allegiance. These aren’t corporate memos or dry newsletters filled with industry jargon. They are personal, raw, and unapologetically patriotic reflections on what it means to live out our civic duty in 2026.
The Pulse of a Daily Practice
What if everything you’ve been told about civic responsibility is wrong? We often treat it like a heavy burden or a chore. But in my daily letters, I challenge you to view citizenship as an opportunity, a chance to lead, to inspire, and to connect.
Leadership doesn’t just happen in the Oval Office; it happens in the homeroom, the breakroom, and the living room. When you engage with these letters, you aren’t just reading my thoughts; you are joining a movement of people who refuse to let the American spirit go quiet. We dive deep into the "why" behind our traditions. We ask the tough questions.
For instance, does the Pledge of Allegiance still matter in 2026? I believe it does, but not just because it’s a habit. It matters because it’s a verbal contract we make with one another to uphold "liberty and justice for all." When you see those words through a new lens, your entire perspective on your neighbor changes.

Shifting from "Me" to "We"
The secret to a stronger America isn’t a new law or a different politician. It’s the shift from a "me" mindset to a "we" mindset. This is the core of every letter I send.
In a world that thrives on "likes" and individual clout, the concept of the Common Good has become a bit of a "forbidden secret." But here’s the truth: when we focus on what we owe to our community rather than just what we can get from it, the division starts to dissolve.
I use my daily letters to coach you through these shifts. We talk about how to respect differences and lead civil discussions in a time when everyone seems ready to take offense. It’s not about winning an argument; it’s about winning back the soul of our neighborhoods.
I often share stories from our Veterans Tribute Series because there is no better example of "we" than those who have served. Their perspectives remind us that the freedoms we enjoy were paid for in a currency of sacrifice, and that sacrifice demands our respect today.
Why 2026 is Different
We are standing at a historic crossroads. As we approach the 250th anniversary of this great nation, the stakes have never been higher. My daily letters serve as a countdown and a call to action for this milestone.
Picture this: every household in your town celebrating 250 years of liberty, not just with fireworks, but with a renewed commitment to our founding ideals. Now, what if I told you it starts with you picking up an oral history kit and recording the story of your own family’s American journey?
History isn’t just something that happened in 1776. It’s something we are writing right now. My letters are designed to help you see yourself as a primary character in that story. Whether we’re discussing how to build unity in divided times or the importance of passing down traditions to the next generation, the goal is always the same: to make you feel empowered.

The Educational Mission
A huge part of my daily mission is supporting the educators and parents who are on the front lines. We can’t expect the next generation to value citizenship if we don't give them the tools to understand it.
I’ve heard from so many teachers who feel stuck. How do you make the words "liberty" and "justice" click for a teenager who is more interested in their phone than a history book? We tackle that head-on. We talk about creative ways to teach the Pledge in homeroom and how to use modern classroom kits to spark real conversations.
If you are a parent, my letters provide the "cheat sheet" for answering those tough questions your kids ask about the Pledge. We aren't just teaching them to recite words; we are teaching them to understand a promise.
Why I Write to You Personally
You might wonder why a CEO spends time writing every single day. The answer is simple: because I believe in you.
I believe that the average American is tired of the noise and hungry for substance. I write because I know that a single thought: sparked at 7:00 AM over a cup of coffee: can linger in your mind and change the way you interact with a stranger at 2:00 PM.
These letters are my way of coaching you through the complexities of modern patriotism. We address the controversial topics, like the history behind "Under God", with a sense of authority and respect. We don't shy away from the truth, but we always approach it with a solution-oriented mindset.

Your Invitation to the Conversation
Bet you can’t read a week’s worth of these letters without feeling a renewed sense of pride in your community. That’s a challenge I’m willing to make.
Citizenship isn't a spectator sport. It requires you to get off the sidelines and into the game. My letters are the "playbook," but you are the one who has to execute the plays.
Maybe that means volunteering for a Storykeeper program to preserve your family's legacy. Maybe it means sponsoring a veteran guest speaker for a local school. Or maybe it just means standing a little taller the next time you face the flag.
In seven days, you could be looking at your town, your country, and your role in it with a completely different set of eyes. You have the power to influence the culture around you. You have the ability to reinforce the values that make this nation a beacon of hope.
The Mission of Pledge Allegiance
At the end of the day, everything I write is rooted in the mission of Pledge Allegiance. We are a non-profit dedicated to civic education because we know that an informed citizenry is the only thing that keeps a republic alive.
We provide the resources: from virtual field trips to youth workshops: but the real work happens in the hearts of people like you.
I’m inviting you to join me. Subscribe to the daily letters. Dive into our blog to find more resources. Let’s stop talking about what’s wrong with America and start being what’s right with it.
Your citizenship is a gift. It’s time to start treating it like one.

Let's Get to Work
Take a moment right now to reflect. What is one small thing you can do today to serve your community? It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture. It can be as simple as learning what the law actually says about our patriotic traditions so you can speak with confidence and clarity.
I’ll be in your inbox tomorrow morning with more. We have a lot to cover, and with the 250th anniversary looming, there’s no time to waste.
Stay bold, stay proud, and as always: keep the faith in what we can achieve together.
Dan Kost
CEO, Pledge Allegiance
